Its range spans Africa, Asia including India, Taiwan, and Yemen, twenty-two European countries, North America, five Oceanian territories, and five South American nations. Common grapevine is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. The species is of enormous agricultural and cultural significance, being the primary source of wine grapes cultivated globally for millennia. Wild populations typically colonize woodland edges and scrubland. Biological traits of this species remain poorly documented in the scientific literature.
