Frustulia rhomboides is a large, elongated freshwater diatom with a rhomboid outline and a distinctive raphe system embedded in siliceous ribs. It inhabits benthic and epiphytic habitats in acidic, humic freshwater environments including peat bogs and forest streams. This photosynthetic diatom is a bioindicator of acidic, dystrophic freshwater conditions.
