Psammothidium acidoclinatum e uma pequena diatomacea bentonica de agua doce encontrada presa a substratos acidos em lagos oligotroficos, turfeiras e correntes de agua suave. Sua parede celular siliciosa e distintamente assimetrica, com valvas moldadas para facilitar a fixacao a graos de sedimento. Esta especie e util como bioindicador de quimica da agua, particularmente acidez, em estudos de ecologia de agua doce.
