Um beija-flor grande e distinto com partes superiores verde-iridescentes e manchas alares fulvas visíveis em voo, o beija-flor-frontal-de-asa-fulva habita florestas montanas úmidas do Equador e sul da Colômbia a elevações de 1.500–3.600 metros. Os machos possuem uma gorja azul-esverdeada brilhante. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante, mas sensível ao desmatamento da floresta de nevoeiro andina.
