Xanthomonas campestrisはグラム陰性の桿菌状植物病原菌で、キャベツやブロッコリーを含むアブラナ科植物の黒腐病の原因菌として最もよく知られています。商業的に価値のある多糖類のキサンタンガムを生産し、世界中の感染植物の維管束組織に生息します。この好気性細菌は感染した種子、雨水の跳ね返り、汚染された道具を通じて広がります。

Xanthomonas pisiはエンドウやその他のマメ科植物に細菌萎凋病と葉斑病を引き起こすグラム陰性植物病原菌です。温帯農業地域で感受性の高い宿主植物の葉組織と維管束系に生息します。この好気性の桿菌は汚染された種子、雨水、機械的伝播を通じて広がります。
