Novosphingobium arabidopsisは、モデル植物Arabidopsis thalianaの根から最初に単離されたグラム陰性の好気性桿菌である。温帯地域の小型顕花植物の根内生圏および根圏に生息する。この化学有機栄養菌は宿主植物と有益な共生関係を形成し、根由来の有機化合物を分解する可能性がある。

Sphingomonas yabuuchiae は日本の微生物学者薮内英子を記念して命名された黄色素グラム陰性桿菌である。土壌と臨床検体を含む様々な環境基質に生息し、幅広い有機化合物を分解して偶発的にヒト感染から分離される好気性化学有機栄養細菌である。
