Habita zonas bentonicas epilelicas en rios, lagos y ambientes salobres de regiones templadas y subtropicales. Esta diatomea fotosintetica contribuye a las comunidades de biofilm en la superficie de los sedimentos.

Navicula graciloides es una diatomea esbelta de agua dulce de la familia Naviculaceae, caracterizada por su frustulo elongado y gracil con un rafe recto. Se encuentra comunmente en comunidades bentonicas de aguas limpias a moderadamente enriquecidas.
