Ensifer arboris es una bacteria gramnegativa fijadora de nitrógeno que forma nódulos radiculares efectivos en árboles leguminosos de las regiones áridas y semiáridas de África y Asia. Habita la rizosfera y los nódulos radiculares de la Prosopis y otros árboles leguminosos similares a la acacia en entornos tropicales y subtropicales. Esta bacteria convierte el nitrógeno atmosférico en amoniaco biológicamente disponible para sus árboles hospedadores.
