Novosphingobium chloroacetimidivorans is a Gram-negative aerobic rod with the capacity to degrade chloroacetamide herbicides. It has been isolated from herbicide-contaminated soils in agricultural regions. This specialized bacterium plays a role in the natural attenuation of chlorinated organic pollutants in agricultural soils.
Novosphingobium sediminicola is a Gram-negative aerobic rod first isolated from freshwater lake sediments, as its species name implies. It inhabits aquatic sediment environments across temperate regions. This chemoheterotroph decomposes organic matter including aromatic compounds in sediment environments of freshwater ecosystems.
